so cheesy

So in my quest to find out which is healthier, soy or dairy, I've been overcome with an enormous amount of anxiety on the subject matter. Its really no surprise that I am experiencing anxiety because frankly, I have anxiety about anxiety and it does not take much to set me into a worrying state.

Nonetheless, today it is dairy that has me befuddled.

Its not that I've gotten much further into my Soy vs. Dairy investigation (I know you are disappointed but people, I am busy WORKING... sheesh, someone has to pay le bills), its just I have become so accutely aware of the topic that I've come to the realize how much I rely on dairy... particularly the aged variety... AKA CHEESE.

Honestly, I could go without drinking milk or pouring milk on cereal but holy mother... I seriously don't think I could go without cheese. For real. And, I don't even consider myself a cheese obsessed person. But, from grated parmesan on pasta, to shredded cheddar on a burrito, to cream cheese on a bagel, to wine & cheese, to sliced fresh mozarella on a pizza, to crumbled gorg on a salad... I make my rounds with curdled dairy and can safely say I am a cheese whore.

Don't interpret my above menu selections as greasy fried fatness... I am not DOUSING food with cheese. Its more of an accoutrement, if you will. Usually (as in, this does not include random nacho escapades), my diet is low in fat, high in fiber, and chock full of fruits & veggies. And, cheese is consumed in moderation (except on nachos... then it is heaping... but that is neither here nor there). No problem then, right? The problem is not in one meal or serving, its the fact that I eat it multiple times per day and I still WONDER why my love handles will not fade. Hmmm...

I am not yet making the claim that cheese is either HEALTHY or UNHEALTHY (like wine and caffeine, two staples in my diet, the jury is still out). For now, I still live in the everything-in-moderation school of thought. But, if in my research I DO discover that cheese is in no way healthy for you, I don't know what I am going to do. There are simply no substitutions for quality cheese. No soy or vegan imitation can replace such a delicately crafted fare. I am an open-minded chick... but on this, there is no argument. (In other words, don't even try.)

I am exactly the same way. I always am eating cheese, I just love it. There are so many varieties that it can go with anything. Like you, I don't saturate things with cheese and my overall diet is pretty good, I think anyway.

I could never stop eating cheese for an extended length of time. I am going to blame it on being Italian.

Vegan cheese is hard to come by and really expensive, but I absolutely love almond milk and coconut milk.

This morning I made an incredible smoothie out of coconut milk, a frozen banana, 1/2 cup frozen mango, and 1/2 scoop of protein powder. It tasted like a pina colada, but healthy!

Cheese is definitely wonderful.

I'm with you -- I could go without milk, which I rarely have anyway, but not cheese. I love cheese! Real cheese.

Ewwwwhhh cheese gives me the heebie jeebies. Not it it's melted though. I *shudder* at the thought of sinking my teeth into a block of cheese. GAAAAAHHHHH!

Cheese is irreplaceable.

Even as a vegan I refused to touch the alternatives. While they might be more compassionate, I also seriously doubt that they are healthier than the real thing. Way too processed.

I *heart* cheese too. Goes great with wine. And beer. And it's not too shabby to eat a hunk with a martini. Oh, who are we kidding, it's excellent with anything!

Another cheese lover here. Couldn't live without the stuff. The soy kind and the fat-free kinds are nasty, in my opinion, but we eat a lot of the lowfat cheeses, and they're not bad at all.

Hehe you gotta give yourself some wiggle room!
